We are the Leaders we have been Waiting For by Lyssa Adkins

Check out the video below of Lisa Adkins presenting on “We are the Leaders we have been Waiting For” at Washington DC Scrum User Group (DCSUG). Lisa asks if we Agilists value individuals and interactions over processes and tools, why do processes and tools so often run the show? In this talk, Lyssa offers two good reasons why she thinks this is so and shows the way out with some solid, but not well known, human technologies. Using eye-opening adult human development models, this keynote lays out the challenging terrain we need to traverse — which is for us to get good at helping people in organizations develop their mental capabilities, not just change their mind-sets. When this happens, we will be able to help organizations do more than just “talk the talk” about valuing individuals and interactions over processes and tools (as well as fully living into all of the other Agile values). It’s a big challenge but we are up for it! It turns out that our community at large is on the leading edge of adult human development and, if we can develop ourselves, we can help others do the same. It’s our time. We are the leaders we have been waiting for. Lyssa will show you why this is so, give you some food-for-thought about your own development and offer practical ways to help develop others so that the full promise of Agile comes true more often.
